Explore art and geometry with our Nonagon Kite Tessellation Pattern Blocks. First explore the shapes separately and discover that kites can tessellate on their own, but nonagons cannot tessellate on their own. Then combine the pieces and discover that the kites and nonagons can tessellate in combination! This set includes 3 maple nonagons, 3 cherry nonagons, 3 maple kites, and 3 cherry kites. For even more fun (and learning!) combine the Nonagon Kite Tessellation Pattern Blocks with any of our other Tessellation Pattern Blocks - all have at least one side of common length. Using the nonagons with our other sets will add even more fascination as children realize how difficult nonagons are to tessellate, yet a solution does exist! Why? How? Amazing!
This advanced set is for those who already understand that to tessellate means to cover an area without leaving gaps nor overlapping. If children are leaving gaps they would benefit from one of our introductory sets which include a self-correcting base that prohibits leaving gaps. Use with Tessellation Pattern Cards (Coming Soon!) or free-form exploration. They may also be used for picture making or other pattern block activities. It is recommended they be used for tessellations first, and after tessellations have been fully explored and mastered, then they be used for picture making. All pieces are carved from either solid maple or solid cherry. Each is hand-finished with a food-grade beeswax/oil which protects and enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Packaged by hand in 100% recycled material. No adhesives.
